Land Tours

Flores - a place of pure beauty with a whole range of activities to enhance your holiday!

There are volcanic lakes of varying colours, stunning views and areas that remain untouched by tourism. Enjoy and be part of traditional dances and festivities, be immersed in the local culture and take in some of the most dramatic scenery in Indonesia! After diving in the most bio diverse place in the world, don't rush away from the area. Take the time to explore somewhere that may be famous for Komodo Dragons and epic diving but has so much more to offer!

Warloka

Scuba Junkie Komodo beach and dive resort is located around 15 Km South of the main port of Labuan Bajo in the stunning, quiet bay of Warloka.

Away from the hustle and bustle of town is Warloka, a laid-back fishing village that offers a secluded shoreline as well as a feel of going back in time.

An ancient former trading port, Warloka is a place where numerous historic artifacts like stone pillars, dolmens, daggers and spearheads, jewelry, and antique ceramics have been found. Some of these items are even estimated to date back to the Chinese Bronze Age, which presumably started around 2000 BC.

At present, more than 100 small to massive rocks and stone formations (as long as 5.7 meters), can be found at ten different locations. It would take you around three hours to visit them all! However, you should not miss Warloka's most impressive dolmen (stone table), which is located on top of Warloka Hill. Up there, you will also be rewarded with an awesome panoramic view.

Komodo Dragons

The Komodo dragons are arguably one of the main attractions of the Komodo area (we would argue the diving is, but we might be a little bias). On the day you check out from the Komodo Beach Resort we will take you over the Rinca Island to see these pre-historic looking creatures.

The Indonesian government established the Komodo National Park in 1980 to protect these impressive beasts, of which there are only 2000 left in the wild. These incredible creatures can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh up to 90 kg! Their saliva contains a toxic bacteria and once they have bitten their prey they will follow it until the animal succumbs to the bacteria and is weakened. They are fascinating creatures and a visit to see them is not to be missed!

Other places that are a must to visit while in Flores!

Labuan Bajo

Be sure to spend some time in the charming fishing town of Labuan Bajo on the way back from the resort. The town offers many different types of restaurants that offer local and western food and lots of small interesting shops to browse around. From Labuan Bajo its very easy starting point to explore the rest of Flores.

Trekking on mainland Flores to Mount Mbeliling is one of the best treks in the area to see Flora and Fauna and the giant Flores rat which is actually pretty cute! The trek starts about an hours drive away from Labuan Bajo.

Cunca Rami

Sitting 35km South East of Labuan Bajo is the beautiful Cunca Rami Waterfall. It offers an incredible natural swimming experience and is a great day trip away from Labuan Bajo. The hour and a half scenic walk through un touched nature takes you away from the modern day hustle and bustle of the town. There are small villages to explore and a lesson in culture and agriculture can be arranged. The trail leads you across various villages before it stretches out into open farmlands with water buffaloes, pigs and goats gazing freely in the fields.

Wae Rebu

Wae Rebu is often described as the most beautiful traditional village in Indonesia. It is an old Manggaraian village that is situated in beautiful mountain scenery. This is a unique opportunity to see authentic Manggarai housing and to experience the every day life of the local community.

To reach the village is a three hours hike, but it is worth the time as it offers some of the most stunning biological diversity. The circular building contrast hugely to our modern rectangular buildings and this experience will make you feel as though you've been transported to another world. There is also the opportunity to spend a night in this fascinating village and experience what life must have been like in a simpler time.

Kelimutu

Located east of Labuan Bajo in the Ende regency you can either fly there or take the more scenic, but windy, bus option. Please note that you will need about 4 days to do this comfortably.

This is a real must see when you visit Flores and the most popular time to climb the volcano is just in time for sunrise. There are three lakes that have different colors yet are at the crest of the same volcano. Tiwu Ata Bupu (Lake of Old People) is usually blue. The other two lakes, Tiwu Ko'o Fai Nuwa Muri (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or Enchanted Lake) are separated by a shared crater wall and are typically green or red respectively.

Did you know Flores has Hobbits?

There are many old Maggairian myths and tales of small people living in caves - often referred to as 'Hobbits'. This has lead to a lot of discussion about whether these were people suffering from dwarfism or if they were a new kind of human. Did modern human kind cross with these people or did a huge volcanic eruption wipe out their population?

A cave on Flores has recently been undergoing archaeological evacuation, with new evidence being found suggesting human occupation.

These caves are just a 40m drive from Ruteng and it's a fascinating trip.
